An Insightful Reminder

Information and answers are around us all the time.  Sometimes we just need to pay closer attention to notice and understand the message.

Having seen hummingbirds three times recently in different places and circumstances - including when I first opened my eyes one morning - I took the hint to pay attention to their message (3 times is my cue to pay attention).

In many cultures birds are thought of as messengers, with their ability to fly often signifying intuition and soaring to new heights.  Birds in flight rise above the terrain and can see at a distance with heightened vision.  They remind us that we can do the same - rise above our circumstances, soar to new heights and see more clearly, including with our intuitive vision.  They also represent using that vision to glide the currents of life with ease and grace.

The message of the hummingbird is about lightness and agility.  They are the only bird that can easily fly in all directions, reach high speeds and stop quickly.  Some hummingbirds migrate thousands of miles, so are also a symbol for accomplishing what seems unlikely or impossible.  Agility and accomplishment...count me in!

Hummingbirds eat nectar and pollinate flowers.  What is the nectar or sweetness in your life and business?  Are you finding it, savoring it, and sharing it?  Hummingbirds also have a different breathing method.  They breathe into change, to reduce stress and improve brain function.  Sounds good to me!

And finally, whenever I see a hummingbird, besides feeling fortunate, I feel a combination of delight, joy, wonder and playfulness.  How many of us could use more of the qualities of the hummingbird?  I certainly could!

What is impeccable attention?

The following definitions are from Webster:

·         Impeccable - Faultless; flawless; irreproachable, ideal

·         Attention - Close or careful observation or heed : mental concentration, the ability or power to concentrate mentally, observant consideration

To summarize, impeccable attention is ideal observation and mental concentration.  So let's take that ideal observation and mental concentration and notice what we notice.

Ways to notice

Spend a few minutes a day asking questions that will reveal the answers you are looking for - and remember to wait for the answers in all forms in which they come.  Keep in mind that we have multiple intuitive senses to augment our physical senses.  What are you seeing with your inner eyes?  What are you hearing with your inner ears?  What are you feeling in your body?  What are you just knowing?  Those are all intuitive ways to receive insights and answers.  (You can learn more about the various intuitive senses on my web site.)

One way to frame a general question is:  'What is it I am to know that will help me _________' (fill in the blank).

When to notice

It's easier to receive intuitive insights and answers when we relax our busy mind.  Besides intentionally taking a few minutes a day for this Q & A activity, there are other times that we are naturally more relaxed where it's easier to notice answers.  One is in the fully relaxed state between sleep and opening your eyes.  When you first awaken, take a moment before you jump out of bed, keep your eyes closed and notice what you notice.  I like to think of it as an easy form of horizontal meditation.  Our dreams are also a great way to receive insights and answers.  Also, anything to do with water - whether drinking it, being in it or around it - also helps heighten our intuition.

So with gratitude to our hummingbird messengers, here's to heightened vision, soaring to new heights, agility and accomplishments, savoring sweetness, and breathing into change!
